Most project problems are not caused by the first supplier being bad. They are caused by the single supplier being unavailable exactly when the programme cannot move: peak season, a batch that fails inspection, a factory that stops taking small runs, or a package that is simply too large to be produced in the time left.
What a second source actually needs to be
A useful second source is not a second quotation. It has to be able to take your drawings, work to the same details and finish schedule as the first supplier, and produce parts that will match work already on site. That means three things have to exist before you need it:
- A drawing package that can travel — DWG/PDF drawings, sections and details that another factory can read without a meeting
- A finish and hardware reference — so that panels, edge banding and hardware match the work already installed
- A trial run — one part or one room type produced and checked, before anything depends on it
What we can take on as a second source
- Cabinetry, wardrobes and bathroom vanities
- Wall panels, wall linings and feature walls
- Mouldings, trim lines, filler and scribe panels
- Replacement parts and additions to a package already produced
- Overflow capacity when your usual factory is full or a delivery date has slipped
How we work as a second source
- We review your drawings and return a written list of what is manufacturable as drawn and what must be clarified
- Batch records are kept for panels and edge banding, so additions and replacement parts match the original production run
- Packing is planned around part identification, so a mixed or partial shipment can still be reconciled on site
- We do not contact your client and we do not use your project as a reference
What we need from you
- Drawings and specifications, finish and hardware schedules
- Which parts, which room types, and which dates matter most
- Whether the requirement is a one-off addition or ongoing overflow capacity
- Packing, marking and delivery requirements
Scope note
Architectural wood doors are outside our scope; cabinetry doors and drawer fronts form part of our cabinetry supply. Site installation is carried out by the project’s own trades.
